Introduction to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga:
A Workshop series with Scott Fallows

Join Scott Fallows for a 5-week introduction to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. This is an ancient system of yoga that was passed down to Sri K. Pattabhi Jois by his teacher, Sri T. Krishnamacharya, one of the most distinguished yogis of the 20th Century. The practice consists of a dynamic and challenging sequence of postures that flow one after the other, much like a dance, producing an intense internal heat that purifies and strengthens the body, resulting in a balanced, alert and lucid mind and a health that permeates all aspects of the being.

This workshop will focus on the PRIMARY SERIES in a gentle, safe, and effective way. Basic philosophy will be introduced along with sun salutations, standing poses, seated and finishing postures. Attention will be given to the traditional breathing technique and to establishing correct alignment within each posture. This workshop is designed to give a practitioner a firm and solid foundation in the practice. It is designed for both those new to the primary series and for experienced students who seek detailed attention in their existing ashtanga practice.

Scott Fallows began studying Ashtanga in 1991. He studied directly with Sri K. Pattabi Jois in Mysore, South India on two separate occasions; and has studied with many great teachers in a variety of other yoga and meditation traditions over the years. Ashtanga yoga remains the spine of his personal practice. His teaching is informed as well by a personal study of anatomy, Advaita Vedanta and Ayurveda. Scott now lives in Durango but has traveled and taught at a number of reputable schools throughout the US and abroad.

$75 for 5-week series; or $20 drop-in. To register: contact Sheryl at 970-769-6875 or sheryl@yogaevolution.com

GRAVITY & GRACE: The seeds for creative practice with Peter Sterios

Often we begin the journey of yoga working with muscles and skeletal structure, creating shapes or movements with the body based on generalized rules of alignment. As with most endeavors, through the consistency of practice, awareness of subtler forces grows, and usually paradox is created - what was regarded as correct at one level of practice is not necessarily correct at another. And it is through the discarding of old ways of seeing, those that no longer serve our most creative potential, that evolution occurs and growth results.

During this class, discover your ability to recognize and release habitual patterns of movement and posture, and re"mind" yourself of the infinite grace and creativity we are all capable of. Instruction will include gravity supported movement and meditation, with light-handed guidance from a senior instructor and support from the inherent energy of people practicing together. It will help you fine tune and energize your yoga practice, no matter the style, and cultivate intuition born from your own personal experience.

Instruction during the Workshop will be progressive (step-by-step) in nature and appropriate for all levels.

What is Thai Yoga Massage? Thai Yoga massage is an ancient healing art with origins in Ayurvedic Medicine, Yoga and Buddhism. It has evolved into a unique and magical combination of deep stretching, rhythmic compression, soft-tissue manipulation, gentle rocking, energy balancing, and acupressure. A traditional Thai Yoga massage session is conducted on a thick pad on the floor, and the client remains fully clothed. It is often referred to as "lazy man's yoga" because it offers the same benefits as a yoga practice, but requires little or no effort from the clients.

Taught by internationally recognized instructor Sunny Klaber. Sunny's contagious passions for yoga, dance, Buddhist philosophy and massage strongly influence her unique approach to practicing and teaching this ancient healing art. Her extensive knowledge of, and respect for, these disciplines creates an environment which honors the sacred roots of Thai Yoga Massage, while gracefully infusing it with fresh applications and innovations.
