Yoga for Healing Class with Michele Lawrence
Our weekly Yoga for Healing class is specially adapted for people who need a little slower pace and extra TLC. This class is beneficial for people in recovery from or living with cancer and auto-immune disorders such as: fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, MS, and rheumatoid arthritis. This class is also supportive for those healing from structural challenges such as chronic back, neck pain or joint restrictions. The group atmosphere offers a friendly and communal space to re-integrate body and soul, and provides a safe way to begin moving. Regardless of the origin of disease, all students benefit from the deep relaxation, gentle stretching, overall toning and breathing techniques. Students leave class feeling empowered by learning new ways to alleviate their own pain and tension, while finding a greater sense of peace of mind.

“Michele brings wonderful insight and thoroughness to her practice in Yoga Therapy. My time with Michele has benefited me in a couple of significant areas – She has guided me in successfully working through some very specific injuries that were at the time limiting what I could do in my desired practice while also bringing a holistic perspective around how yoga can serve and be an integral part of my life.” – Eric M.
“Yoga for Healing has been a wonderful tool in my emotional and physical journey through grief and autoimmune issues. I continue to benefit from this class with the tools presented to us that support better health on a daily basis. I look forward to this class each week as a way of sharing space with others as a community. I always leave with a sense of renewal.” – Mary E.
“If you are looking for a rehabilitative method that will offer you more than objective and repetitive clinical physical therapy then Yoga for Healing is for you. No matter what disease or physical difficulty (condition) you are working with you will find this healing environment inclusive and accepting. All poses are carefully chosen to allow for your specific requirements in your healing process. Alternative postures are frequently offered to assist with physical limitations you might encounter. All is done gently with focus on breathing and assisting your body to heal. Even more, you will find your fellow participants supportive and encouraging. It is this kind of community support that promotes the positive energies that provides the psyche the positive energy to assist the body in healing.” – Suz C.

Matthew Sommerville is a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT) working with individuals to address structural, functional, and psychological imbalances to help restore health and a sense of well-being. Along with addressing specific issues, he assists in the process of cultivating a sense of integrated, ongoing self-care. Of particular interest in his practice is working with those seeking relief from chronic and traumatic stress.
“Matthew’s gift as a teacher/yoga therapist is his ability to stand with you and hold a vision of your health and well-being even when you are unable to see it yourself. I began practice with Matthew in Silver City, NM, and left the area to pursue further education. In his commitment of support, we arranged to have our yoga therapy sessions via Skype to maintain the continuity essential for change. I am very grateful to Matthew for all he generously provided in our life changing one-on-one sessions”. (DKC, Bryn Mawr, PA.)
“After 3 months of yoga therapy and changing my dietary habits, my high blood pressure came down to a normal and safe level. I also learned how to mediate the stress levels my professional life was creating. It was so empowering to see that I could take care of my stress (and hypertension) without resorting to medications of any kind. Going forward, I now know taking care of myself is something I can integrate into my otherwise busy life! (J. Keller)
